The Empower to Bloom Project ’25 was designed with two groups at the centre: \nYoung People — those standing at the crossroads of potential and opportunity\, who simply need the right nudge\, the right tools\, and someone to believe in them. \nWidows — resilient\, strong individuals who have faced tremendous loss and yet continue to show up for their families and communities every single day. They deserve more than sympathy. They deserve empowerment. \nTogether\, we came to Uromi to do exactly that. \n\nWHAT HAPPENED ON THE DAY \nThe atmosphere in Uromi on December 13th was electric. HOGSCI team members\, volunteers\, and partners filled the space with energy\, warmth\, and purpose. Beneficiaries arrived to a programme packed with: \n\n✅ Skills empowerment sessions\n✅ Mentorship and motivational talks\n✅ Distribution of resources and support materials\n✅ Networking and community building\n✅ Partnership opportunities for organisations who want to get involved\n\nIt was a day that reminded everyone present — you are not forgotten. You matter. DESCRIPTION:On August 2nd\, 2025\, Heart of Gold Support & Care Initiative went live in Uromi\, Edo State for one of the most joyful and impactful days of the year \, the Back2School Outreach ’25. \nSchool bells were ringing\, and HOGSCI made sure every child in our reach was ready to answer the call\, armed with supplies\, hope\, and the knowledge that someone cares about their future. \n\nEVENT DETAILS \n📍 Location: Uromi\, Esan North East\, Edo State\, Nigeria \n📅 Date: August 2nd\, 2025 \n🏢 Organised by: Heart of Gold Support & Care Initiative (HOGSCI) \n🌐 Website: www.heartofgoldinitiative.org \n📲 Social: @heartofgold_initiative \n\nABOUT THIS PROJECT \nEducation is the single most powerful investment we can make in a child’s future and yet for thousands of children across Nigeria\, the start of a new school term brings anxiety instead of excitement\, because their families simply cannot afford the basics. \nThe Back2School Outreach ’25 was HOGSCI’s answer to that reality. We showed up in Uromi with school bags\, stationery\, and supplies and more importantly\, with the message that these children are seen\, valued\, and worthy of every opportunity education can offer. \nThis outreach is part of HOGSCI’s flagship Back to School programme\, which has now supported over 1\,280 children since its very first edition growing from 5 children in year one to hundreds each year. \n\nWHAT WAS DISTRIBUTED \nEvery child who came through the Back2School Outreach ’25 received: \n\n🎒 School bags and backpacks\n📓 Notebooks and exercise books\n🖊️ Pens\, pencils\, and stationery sets\n📐 Additional school supplies and learning tools\n\nSimple things. Many hardworking individuals\, especially in rural areas\, lack the basic equipment to sustain or grow their businesses. During our recent outreach in Uromi\, we provided essential business tools to help them take charge of their financial future. \nWhat We Provided:\n Grinding MachinesFor individuals in the food processing business\, grinding machines are a game-changer. These machines allow beneficiaries to grind maize\, pepper\, beans\, and other essential ingredients\, increasing their productivity and income. Instead of relying on expensive commercial grinding services\, they can now serve their communities while earning a living. \n Sewing MachinesMany women dream of becoming professional tailors but lack the resources to start. By providing sewing machines\, we are equipping them with the necessary tools to design\, sew\, and alter clothing—helping them establish their fashion businesses and achieve financial independence. \n Hairdressing KitsThe beauty industry is a lucrative sector\, and with the right tools\, many women can turn their hairstyling skills into thriving businesses. We provided hair clippers\, combs\, dryers\, rollers\, and other essentials to aspiring hairdressers\, giving them a solid foundation to start their careers. \n Food Processing EquipmentFor those involved in catering\, we distributed food processing tools such as baking ovens\, mixers\, and frying pans. These tools will help them scale up their businesses\, improve efficiency\, and cater to larger customer bases. \n Other Work EquipmentFrom farming tools to welding kits and retail equipment\, we tailored our donations based on the specific needs of individuals in the community. Our goal is to ensure that every beneficiary has the tools necessary to build a sustainable livelihood. \nWhy This Matters\nLack of access to basic work tools can limit one’s ability to earn a steady income. That’s why\, during our outreach in Uromi\, we provided intensive hands-on vocational training in various fields\, ensuring that beneficiaries gain practical knowledge to start and sustain their own businesses. \nWhat We Trained Them In:\n Tailoring & Fashion DesignParticipants learned how to sew\, design\, and alter clothing. With this skill\, they can start their own fashion businesses or work in established tailoring shops\, increasing their earning potential. \n‍♀️ Hairdressing & Beauty ServicesFrom hair braiding to styling and professional beauty treatments\, our training provided individuals with the necessary expertise to work in the beauty industry or open their own salons. \n Catering & BakingFood businesses are always in demand. We taught participants how to prepare\, package\, and sell baked goods and meals\, giving them the opportunity to earn from their culinary skills. \n Entrepreneurship & Business ManagementHaving a skill is one thing\, but knowing how to manage and grow a business is another. Our business management training covered marketing\, pricing\, customer service\, and financial management\, ensuring that participants are well-prepared to succeed. \nCertification & Monetary Support for a Strong Start\nTo ensure that our beneficiaries gain credibility and have the resources to launch their businesses\, we went a step further by: \n Awarding Certificates – Each participant received a recognized certification\, adding value to their skills and increasing their chances of securing customers or employment. \n Providing Monetary Support – Starting a business requires capital\, and we wanted to remove financial barriers. Selected participants received monetary grants to help them purchase necessary materials and kick-start their ventures. \nWhy This Matters\nMany individuals have the passion and drive to succeed but lack access to structured training and financial support. During our outreach in Uromi\, we took a step toward changing this by providing essential school supplies to students in need. \nWhat We Provided:\nSchool Bags & Writing MaterialsMany children go to school without the basic tools they need to learn. We provided school bags\, pens\, pencils\, rulers\, erasers\, and exercise books\, ensuring that students can take notes\, complete assignments\, and stay organized. \nTextbooks & NotebooksHaving the right books is crucial for academic success. We donated textbooks and notebooks tailored to different school levels\, helping students study effectively and keep up with their curriculum. \nSchool Uniforms & ShoesFor many students\, attending school in worn-out or improper clothing affects their confidence and willingness to learn. We provided new school uniforms and shoes to ensure they feel comfortable and included. \nLunch Boxes & Water BottlesProper nutrition is essential for concentration and energy in school. We distributed lunch boxes and water bottles to encourage healthy eating habits and hydration among students. \nScholarship & School Fee AssistanceBeyond providing materials\, we also supported some students with school fee assistance\, ensuring that financial difficulties do not hinder their education. \nWhy This Matters\nAccess to quality education should not be a privilege; it is a right. Unfortunately\, many families cannot afford even the most basic school supplies\, leading to poor academic performance or students dropping out entirely.
